Materials and manufacturing

The chrome leather used by SASSI France for welder PPE is selected for its resistance to heat, molten metal splashes (splatter), and electric arcs. Unlike synthetic protectors, chrome leather does not melt when exposed to heat: it carbonizes without spreading, effectively protecting the welder. Each piece is manufactured in the SASSI workshop in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

Chrome leather (chrome-tanned) offers better resistance to heat and humidity than vegetable-tanned leather. For welding applications, it is the reference material in professional PPE. The full-grain chrome cowhide of Ref. 95 (hood) offers the superior level of protection.

How to maintain chrome leather welder PPE?

After each use, remove cooled metal splashes by light brushing. Store away from heat and humidity. Occasional conditioning with chrome leather grease prolongs flexibility. Do not machine wash.
