The installation of photovoltaic panels exposes workers to specific and cumulative fall risks. The work is carried out on sloped roofs, tiles, steel decks, membranes, whose surfaces are often smooth, fragile, or soiled, making every movement delicate. The panels themselves, bulky and heavy, impose awkward postures and limit visibility of footholds. Added to this are weather conditions such as wind, heat, and morning dew, which can change rapidly and increase the risk of slipping or losing balance. On flat roofs as well as on slopes, proximity to edges and valleys remains a permanent danger throughout the day.

To secure these operations without hindering productivity, the use of appropriate fall protection PPE is essential: fall arrest harnesses, energy-absorbing lanyards, dedicated anchor points, and progression solutions allowing each installer to remain connected in all circumstances: from unloading the panels to final connection.
